Who knew there were so many new options for beach towels?! Well, we’ve always been fans. But now the variety of towels have taken off with options that include ultra-soft, sand-proof, bigger sizes, and a myriad of colors and designs. You can even find ones that are quick to dry.

What makes a beach towel “better” than any others? Here’s what we believe. 

Beach towels versus bath towels 

The first thing we have to mention is that beach towels are not the same as bath towels. Even though they’re both towels meant to dry you off, we don’t recommend bringing bath towels to the beach. 

Beach towels are made for the beach. They are generally bigger in size and much more durable so they can withstand the sand and elements that get thrown at them outside. In order to keep your bath towels soft to the touch and intact, we suggest keeping them in the bathroom where they belong. Instead, let’s learn what makes the beach towel different.  

Size of the beach towels

Towels come in all sizes depending on what use you have for them. When buying a beach towel you want it to be able to hold your entire body comfortably. We would say around roughly 60” x 30” should suffice. However, if you want to hold multiple people you can get an even bigger beach towel that’s around 60” x 50”.

Material

The material quality affects the absorption, which is important. You can usually tell the quality of the towel by the GSM (grams per square meter). GSM is the standard measurement for the weight and quality of towels (and all fabrics). It is a measure of density, and higher GSM cotton towels are normally heavier and have a higher capacity for absorption. 

Normally, towels range between 300 – 700 GSM. A good beach towel should be around 500-900 GSM. To find a towel’s GSM, check on the tag or label before buying them. Some great beach towels with high GSM and patterns that are to die for are Pendleton Oversized Pattern Beach Towels.

Beach Towel Design

With beach towels, you definitely want to stand out! The beach is a bright, fun, and open space. Beach towels shouldn’t be monochromatic, but should instead match that beachy environment while also reflecting your own unique style. The classic beach stripe towels are always in. But why not zest it up a bit and get fun, vibrant patterns, and colours such as orange, polka-dot, zebra, and swirls. Whatever style accents you the most should be the one to pick.
