Good Space Year End Review: Home is the light to an interesting year

It’s time for our year-end review! We’ve finally made it to the end of 2020 and for that we are grateful. Seriously, this year has been no easy feat and we should all pat ourselves on the back for making it through. 2020 has had its fair share of challenges, surprises, and opportunities for growth. But we’ve always said when the going gets tough outside, it’s the spaces on the inside that we should look to.

As Good Space looks back at the year we’ve had, we recognize how much we have to be grateful for. We were able to transform a record number of home spaces into comfortable and sacred ones. Dwaina moved into her new home, and Molly got engaged! This year we’ve learned that no matter how dark it may seem out there, our homes are the light we find comfort in.

Here are our highlights of the year that have managed to make 2020 a memorable one for Good Space Plans Online interior design team.

A record number of Good Space Plans

end of 2020

Vancouver Bungalow Project

When COVID-19 first hit in March and people were told to stay at home, we were quick to help families adapt to their smaller surroundings. Our homes became more than just places to sleep and eat, but multi-functional spaces to work, play, and keep our minds at ease.

This year alone we were able to do 15 Good Space Plans for families to feel more comfortable in their homes. We helped create at home classrooms for kids, home offices for the parents, and living rooms that could help the entire family find comfort and escape.

Foray into Renovations

before and after year end review

Before and After West End Bathroom Renovation

This year also helped us move more into full-scale renovations. Our clients were able to stay home more and had much more time on their hands. This helped them be able to work on renovation plans they’ve always dreamt of! Good Space did over 10 renovations through our full-service option this year. We upgraded kitchens, created new bathrooms, opened up space, and even added new flooring. If you are interested in doing a full-scale renovation plan for your new home check out our plans here.

New Good Space services available

With the number of Good Space Plans we were receiving, we adopted new online interior design packages. This would help accommodate different desires people had for their space. As a result, Good Space debuted three new plans in 2020 which include:

$30,000 raised for Covenant House

year end review brave space

Good Space has been long-time supporters of Covenant House BC, helping to end homelessness for youth in our community. Every year we’ve participated in their annual Sleep Out to raise money for their Vancouver house. However, due to COVID-19, this year’s sleep out couldn’t be hosted in the alley behind Covenant House Vancouver. Rather it had to be in our own homes and outdoor spaces. Nevertheless, we kept the spirit of the sleep out alive with our team “Brave Space” and slept in Dwaina’s yard.

Why did we call it “Brave Space”? Because we understand it takes incredible courage to leave situations you know are unsafe. We want to help youth enter into brave spaces even if they may feel uncertain in order to find community and safety there.

Through our sleep out and support from our family, partners, and friends, Brave Space was able to raise a whopping $30,000 this year! This will help the 104 youth who come to Covenant House Vancouver every day find family, food, shelter, community, and a brave space they deserve.

This holiday season, youth need your help more than ever. Find out ways to support Covenant House here.

Dwaina moved into her cozy Kits home

year end review moving

Moving Day for Dwaina!

The world may have slowed down during 2020, but that didn’t mean we did! Our founder and principal designer, Dwaina Sprague, was able to move into her Kitsilano cozy home this summer. With help from SOS My Space, Dwaina was able to make moving during a pandemic a breeze and even wrote a blog on how to successfully move with little stress during the summer.

Dwaina not only moved into her new home, but she also bought her own getaway space on the beautiful Sunshine Coast! Have you ever wanted to see the intimate steps and know how to build a new home? Follow Dwaina’s Instagram and Facebook as she breaks ground on building a home from scratch on her social media this coming year. She will share new build and home decor insight so you can create your own dream home – no matter where or how big it is.

Dwaina and Molly shared how to run a family business

molly and dwaina podcast

Last Mother’s Day, Dwaina and Molly were featured on Workin’ Moms podcast to discuss the ins and outs of being a mother and daughter team. In the episode they talked about:

  • Maintaining a healthy personal and working relationship,
  • What kids learn from working parents,
  • And why home should be a priority.

As a business, Good Space Plans Online puts family as their priority. We were honoured to have been invited by Gisele Forge to be on the show and share what our homes and families mean to us. Check out the podcast with Dwaina and Molly here.

Molly got engaged and jumped out of a plane with her fiancé’s grandma!

This year for Molly Sprague has all been about taking big, big leaps of faith. She took her first leap of faith when she got engaged to her partner Fraz! He proposed while on their favourite walking spot at Burnaby Lake. In such an uncertain year, Molly found certainty in the word yes and the happy couple is planning their nuptials for 2022 on the Sunshine Coast.

The second leap of faith was a literal one when Molly and her fiancé’s 91-year-old grandma decided to jump out of a plane and go skydiving for the first time! No time for fear in 2020. You go, grandma!

2020 has kept us centred

When storms seem to blow around us, our homes are the compass we can follow. Our mission this year was to give comfort and peace to families. Who may have been struggling to find balance in such uncertain times. We also have deep gratitude for our homes, families, and friends and want to extend ourselves to those less fortunate.

No matter what else 2020 or the next year throws at us, we believe that through our home and building spaces, we can weather through anything and find peace. We all know there is no place like home and nothing is worth than homelessness. So, let us honor our home.

Happy holidays and we wish you a Happy New Year!
